About

Welcome to my Karen Hunter Piano Studio website!

Karen HunterMy name is Karen Hunter and it is my privilege to teach private piano lessons to students as young as 4 and as old as...well...to adults of any age. My degree in elementary education (Dr. Martin Luther College, 1983), combined with my passion for playing the piano, led me to open my own studio in Middleton more than thirty years ago. I make it my goal to stay informed about new trends in the piano-teaching world by attending piano teacher workshops and by following piano teacher blogs world-wide. I played regularly for worship services for 40+ years at my church and I served as editor of Note-ables, a newsletter for WELS piano teachers, for twenty years. I currently teach 60+ students between my home studio and Westside Christian School. I specialize in teaching beginning students through late intermediate students. My piano students understand that only with faithful practice will they succeed at becoming accomplished pianists. And, they know their lesson time with me will involve a combination of work and fun. My lessons incorporate a mix of playing from the prerequisite lesson book and doing the mandatory theory work to playing a variety of genres of music and music-related games. When appropriate, I also incorporate the use of the internet and the iPad to build students' auditory, rhythm and note-reading skills.

I'm married to Randy Hunter, pastor at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Middleton, Wisconsin. We are blessed with two sons, a son-in-law, a daughter, a daughter-in-law, two granddaughters and three grandsons. My hobbies include walking, reading and (you guessed it!) playing the piano.

If you are interested in piano lessons, please contact me.  I will get back to you with my availability as quickly as possible.

Again, welcome to Karen Hunter Piano!
